For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105. Valorstones Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials. The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price. A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. Crests Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific upgrades to the level of an item. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks. The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded. Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps. The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When upgrade item attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot. Another important change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
